SOMETHING BLUE

Last weekend a very dear friend of many years got married and I had the honor of being the best man of the day. Actually, he (and his bride) appointed me the unofficial style consultant and my job started almost immediately several months ago. The couple chose navy and coral as their color theme. Initially, we wanted to explore a different shade of blue, but personally I think the bright blue wedding suit is really played out at this point, so we settled for a simple navy as it is more classic. Oh, I skipped the part where we shopped online and the silhouette of the jackets were unsatisfactory. Anyway, we decided bespoke was the way to go and we traveled for hours to this guru tailor in another state. I negotiated to add the db vest to heighten the power of the look. Enjoy! PS - I think I need to be more prepared  for shoots and of course snap more 'detail' photos.

START WITH WHY

This is a new blog. Another opportunity to get it right.

I tried to keep an online journal before now and I guess the will to continue that venture (or two) fizzled out along the way. I had a lot of questions and wondered what the purpose was for. What do I write about? What really is my passion? How do I design the blog? How can I make it blow (Nigerian street parlance for "success")?

Even though I had a fair idea of what I wanted to create, I just enjoyed thinking so much about the whole thing. I wanted to start on a big note and become one of the top style blogs around. It was a whole lot of dreaming and no waking up.

To reality.

Truly, I really love clothes and playing dress up. Yes I do! And I wanted to create and share something original and fun. Something that will draw people in without trying much effort. I imagined it would be organic and definitely have excellent execution overall. I thought maybe I should just post pictures and write details of outfits or drop designer names. As easy as it sounded, I was not making any move.

Truth is, I am a bit of a perfectionist and my own worst critic when it comes to what I do. Perhaps, that contributed to all the excuses and procrastination. I wanted everything to be perfect; a good camera, locations, new clothes... (smh). Guess what? By the time I got all these, I formulated new excuses. Who does that?
The question I should have asked is why do I want to have a blog? This is how I decided on the title of this post. "Start With Why" is the title of a book by Simon Sinek where he explains how leaders inspire.

And the answer is, I am crazy about fashion. LOL. I think fashion is fun and full of possibilities. I enjoy the creative process of making art. I like to be involved with new design projects. To learn new skills and  techniques useful in the future and above all to impart my own knowledge in the space.

Can you see the lessons here?
1. Every professional was once an amateur
2. The best success stories are those that tell of your seeming obscure/inconsequential past
3. Never wait for perfect conditions before you do anything worthwhile
